Jhori

Most Indian households make Karhi, but Jhori is a typical Kayastha dish. Do make this recipe made with Urad Dal and relish the difference.

Jhori | Baatein Kadhai Se

Ingredients

Dhuli Urad Dal - 1 cup

Fenugreek Seeds - 1 teaspoon

Red Chilli Powder - 1 teaspoon

Coriander Powder - 2 teaspoons

Asafoetida (hing) - a pinch

Whole Red Chillis - 2-3

Oil for frying & cooking

Salt to taste

Method

Step 1 - Soak the dal overnight.

Step 2 - Divide the soaked dal into two parts. Grind one part coarsely & the other into a fine paste.

Step 3 - Beat the fine paste dal nicely to make it light & fluffy.

Step 4 - Heat oil in a wok & deep fry the dal balls (pakoris) & keep aside.

Step 5 - Heat oil in a pan, temper with whole red chillies, hing, fenugreek seeds. Add red chilli, coriander & Homemakerz Garam Masala Powders.

Step 6 - Saute the masala, add the coarsely ground dal along with some water to make a curry.

Step 7 - Boil the gravy & bring it to a desired consistency.

Step 8 - Put the pakoras made earlier in this curry and boil well till pakoras become soft.

Step 9 - Garnish with Homemakerz Curry Salt

Step 9 - Serve hot with rice or roti.
